PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Regional Business Development Manager (RBDM) for South Africa will be responsible for successful implementation of microfinance operations into countries in this region. The RBDM provides advice and technical support to microfinance institutions (MFIs) of VisionFund International (VFI) so that they can operate effectively under the VFI network. The RBDM is required to work with each MFI individually to resolve issues, support the MFI CEO so that the MFI grows and impacts more children in the World Vision Area Development Programs (ADPs).


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct initial institutional assessment from which develop an Action Plan to improve operations of the MFI
Develop Terms of Reference for each MFI visit to address issues raised in the Assessment Report
Board membership and attendance of Board meetings
CEO support and succession planning at senior management level
Reporting
Staff training and development



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

REQUIRED:
Masters degree (eg MBA) and a Bachelor's degree in management sciences such as BComm Finance/Business Management.
Demonstrated spiritual depth and commitment to the mission and core values of World Vision
Demonstrated ability to “grow” microfinance institutions with hands-on leadership experience of MFIs an advantage
Demonstrated ability as an internal and/or external organization development consultant with exceptional analytical and facilitation skills; is a systems thinker able to examine various processes and systems for improving organizational effectiveness
Good knowledge and experience on governance, especially for microfinance institutions
Good knowledge of microfinance industry best-practice and performance

PREFERRED:
Demonstrated ability as a team leader and effective team member significant experience supervising others is necessary.
Demonstrated ability to influence decision makers and others with exceptional interpersonal negotiation and communication skills.
Has demonstrated skill and understanding in cross cultural situations and values diversity
Demonstrated ability to teach and train in both formal and informal processes
Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach staff for performance improvement.
10 + years in microfinance or NGO leadership including 5 years of international experience

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

World Vision (WV) is a global network of people committed to enhance the well-being of children everywhere by empowering families and communities to overcome the challenges of poverty and injustice.
The West Africa Food Crisis Communications Manager will provide strategic communications direction and to ensure a strong communications response to the humanitarian crisis and World Vision’s emergency programme. You will work closely with the WARO (West Africa Regional Office) Communications Team to oversee the production of key communications resources for donor and public engagement. Additionally, you will position World Vision’s food crisis response with media, provide leadership to the Partnership around media and marketing opportunities, and ensure VIP/media trips are effectively handled/staffed.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage the planning and production of compelling and issues-oriented fundraising, advocacy and publicity materials (web-based, electronic, print and video) for effective donor and public engagement
Serve as spokesperson for the food crisis response and identify, train and position other media spokespersons as appropriate for responding to media inquiries
Collaborate with advocacy colleagues to define key issues, messaging, and communications strategy to position WV with key external stakeholders (UN, NGOs, governments, ECOWAS, inter-agency groups, beneficiaries…)
Ensure Partnership channels are used to provide internal stakeholders with a clear idea of WV’s response strategy, operations and achievements, resource availability and other updates


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

REQUIRED:
A degree or equivalent in journalism, communications/public relations or social sciences.
At least five years professional experience in journalism or public relations is preferred.
English language fluency (written and verbal). Competence in spoken French
Able to travel and work in the field as an essential function of the position.
