KPA Duties

Operational Excellence • Responsible for ensuring the ongoing operation and availability of all Voice & Telephony systems and platforms to meet business requirements • Develop the framework for the operational management of Voice & Telephony products and services including fault management, configuration management, performance management and change management • Drive project brief, budget and accountability and responsibility breakdown for Voice & Telephony products and services • Drive the implementation of service operations strategies • Accountable for the management of Voice & Telephony service second line support • Provide guidance and direction for Voice & Telephony first line support to enable efficient operation of the Voice & Telephony NOC and appropriate fault handling and escalation procedures and practice • Lead development and/or use of tools to optimise system management through automation • Accountable for the ongoing stability and availability of Voice & Telephony, systems and platforms • Ensure support documentation is sufficiently detailed and up to date to ensure business continuity and prevent over-reliance on a few individuals • Ensure performance of Voice & Telephony deliverables is monitored, investigated for performance and functionality issues, and future designs optimised around root causes identified • Ensure compliance of all service operations with all regulatory, commercial and business requirements (e.g. Security and integrity of banking systems, assurance of revenue within defined parameters, system security requirements e.g. Password change etc) • Ensure agreed service levels are met and exceeded with regard to internal and external customer expectations • Ensure Voice & Telephony expansions, upgrades and software implementation are carried out to schedule and agreed quality standards • Ensure all new Voice & Telephony systems introduction and replacement of existing systems are carried out to schedule and agreed quality standards • Ensure vendor interaction is managed appropriately through RfP review, verification of BoM and ensuring acceptance testing • Manage the support agreements and supplier support interfaces for Voice & Telephony products and service systems Communication and co-ordination: • Support the development and maintenance of sound interworking between service operations and other Service Delivery departments and Network Operations • Interface with other areas of the MTN business for effective customer support reporting on business KPIs as appropriate • Interface effectively with vendor interfaces for Voice & Telephony products and services systems • Ensure rapid response and appropriate support for high value customers and efficient and effective support is provided for all customers • Ensure effective troubleshooting procedures are in place and utilised by skilled and motivated resources Financial Management • Forecast, plan and develop Voice & Telephony budgets in line with MTN SA financial requirements • Manage Voice & Telephony expenditures in line with agreed budgets • Support in oversight and approval of Voice & Telephony supplier support agreements • Identify and eliminate non-contributory expenditures Task Complexity: Maintain Best-of-class delivery levels through positive change, adaptation & continuous improvement. Requirements

A degree/Higher National Diploma in light current engineering, telecommunications or a related field. Management Diploma
At least ten years experience in a telecoms or IT environment. At least three years experience in leading or managing technical task teams.
Knowledge: A highly experienced technologist and Strategist with operational, planning and problem solving abilities. Lateral thinking and overall systems-interconnectivity knowledge a must. Experience and comprehension of telecommunications, VAS, Applications and IT networks and techniques, TMN (Telecommunication Management Networks) philosophy and industry practice is advantageous. Process engineering and project management skills required. Good knowledge of Industry direction and trends. You will be identifying savings and optimization opportunities within the customer’s supply chain, with a major focus on Optimization and Solution Design, as well as track record in identifying and delivering savings in previous roles.

What are you accountable for achieving?

To benchmark supply chain elements to ensure best practice and to propose solutions that are competitive
Design specification, implementation support and identify clear development & migration plan to secure operational business
Wider solutions design teams (CRF sector / other sectors / country based ) for knowledge sharing and project working.
LLP development team in the pursuit of new business by designing innovative and competitive solutions.
Operations team within the customer organisation for the validation and seamless transfer of new business.
IT teams to communicate appropriate high level systems requirements for new or revised solutions..
Finance teams for the validation of costs for proposed solutions, business case preparation and the provision of commercial information to ensure that projects satisfy financial hurdles.
HR teams to communicate the appropriate HR business requirements (project headcount, recruitment needs, TUPE requirements etc.)
To design, cost, recommend and implement consulting studies in the above mentioned elements for new business opportunities to realise new business growth and renewals of existing business to retain & protect current business
To ensure solutions comply with the relevant legislation
Produce detailed relevant outputs designed to introduce robust analysis, control and improvement opportunities based around accepted 6 Sigma methodologies (DMAIC)
To develop a clear roadmap to move from a consulting engagement to a fully managed supply chain
To support the Regional LLP General Manager in the development of the LLP product offering.
Creation of business cases to justify the implementation of change for our customers

What will you need as a successful Development and Solutions Design Manager?

A good degree of computer literacy, with knowledge of CAD, Class, Cast, CAPS, Access, Excel, & powerpoint.
6 Sigma practitioner – relevant to supply chains – Minimum Green Belt level
Workshop facilitation skills in support of supply chain mapping exercises with customers or dealing with complex process design issues
Ability to demonstrate analytical and logical thinking; data manipulation skills are essential to this role
Good written and spoken English is essential and other European languages desirable (fluency in French is highly desirable).
Technical aptitude – this role requires the use of a variety of supporting software tools
Able to assess existing operations (own / customer) and identify areas for improvement
Ability to think conceptually and translate ideas to “real world”
Cultural awareness
Good communication & presentational skills; good listener and effective in communicating ideas. Frequently required to present to customer’s senior management teams.
People management skills, including objective setting, resource allocation and performance review
Ability to be a self-starter and shape the direction of a project with minimal supervision
At least 5 years logistics / operational experience with at least 3 years varied experience in a solutions design role
Consumer industry experience desirable but not essential
Able to demonstrate successfully implemented solutions
Proven track record in managing multi-country solution design projects
Awareness of relevant industry legislation
Commercial awareness and understanding of key costs and cost drivers within the supply chain
International business experience with ability to demonstrate good cultural awareness. Ideally in more than one country (other than home country).

The successful candidate will, in line with DSC Global Strategy be responsible for increasing best practice standardization of sector operations.

The role will own the program management of the deliverables of the Best Practice Centre (including Sector Standard Operating Models, IT templates, COO, and SOPS, Business Cases) and the creation of a DSC EMEA knowledge centre for its documentation and internal communication across sector and functional communities using common architecture, language, definitions, tools and systems.



What are you accountable for achieving?

Scope definition, planning and program management of the Best Practice Centre 2012-14 in support of its detailed deliverables for SWOP EMEA, Solution Design Standardisation, Planning and Efficiency , Strategic Product teams

Scoping and architecture of a knowledge centre for the Best Practice Centre using Ishare or similar platforms ensuring ease through simple structure , change control, building on existing good practice

Facilitating agreement in the BPC of an optimum standards framework for document creation, change control , tools and systems used including indexing, tagging etc

Internal communications channel setup across Sector Operations , Solution Design , and Product and other subject matter exert communities to allow sharing , discussion and creation of new Best Practice Ideas

Training and Change management. In order to maximize awareness , use and engagement with the Best Practice Centre resource and its tools, awareness briefings and community engagement plan will be developed





What will you need as a successful Head of Knowledge Management?



Essential

Strong Project / Program Management and appreciation of the importance of change management
Passion for sharing and the importance of knowledge management ideally with a track record of involvement in knowledge initiatives
Good Analytical and problem solving skills and attention to detail
Able to both conceptualize approaches to problems and create detailed business processes, plans roles and responsibilities.
Experience of working with multi-cultural teams and virtually culturally sensitive and flexible and ideally across more than one Sector
Effective communication skills / interpersonal understanding and patience
Team player with the ability to influence and negotiate , mediate and facilitate the right outcomes across multi functional technical teams
7 years experience across two or more areas in Operations, Solution Design, IT, Sales, Product Development, Quality , Project management, Business Process Optimisation,



Desirable

Project / Program Mgt recognised qualification desirable
Higher school examination , ideally degree level or other higher technical qualification
